This school is messed up. They care more about their own reputation then our daughters own mental health. They make our daughter walk to school with a $300 blazer in 30 degree heat which is absolutely ridiculous. The stress these kids are out through is unbelievable. They can't wear makeup to hide their insecurities, they can't wear more than one ring or instant detention, my daughter is trying to explain the situation and they say "Why are you talking back?" when she wasn't and she was trying to explain. My daughter developed severe depression and anxiety and she lost her spirit and joy of coming to school, she had to leave all her friends because her grades dropped and lost her wisdom. She also became suicidal because of how the teachers pushed and treated her. Please save your money and if you want your child to have fun don't send her here.

where do i even start. this school is an absolute shit show with the rules
why cant i wear a necklace from my own culture
why cant i get a second little pericing
why do i have to wear a blazer in 30 degrees heat
why cant i be on my phone in my freetime (lunch)
to make THIS school look good? it makes it even worse. its so bad even parents complain about the rules. if u wanna have fun teenage years here i suggest you dont come her

this school is bad, 1/10 first of all the rules make no sense? Why do I have to wear a blazer on a 30 degrees day, and why cant I have mroe than one pericing on a ear, and why cant I go on my phone at lunch and these teachers basically steal my phone till the end of the day? Thats literally so unfair. and also they give us like 30 assesments to do ijn less than a month which really makes my mental health stuffed up, and also they treat the newman kids so much better and the reviews are mostly good from them, and they care about how the kids look more than our education ajnd 1/10 for this school doint send ur kid here and ruin there teenage years

Tbh I have a lot to say about this school. First off the uniform. It was like $200 for a blazer that looks half decent. Most of the teachers here are pretty nice from my opinion. The canteen is so overpriced and the food isn't even that good. The fries are dry and the snacks are like $3. Bathrooms are pretty clean and nice though. The school only cares about their reputation instead of students. They care more about the newmans and not caring about the other students. Don't send your kids here this school is pathetic. 3/10

dont send ur child here, let me list the dumb rules (all
- no necklaces other than a cross
- no choice to sit inside in the WINTER
- wear ur blazer walking to school and home
- no makeup (everyone wears it)
-no coloured hair ties lol
- no nail polish (god forbid we wear more than 2 rings or we will die)
in conclusion it basically means NO teenage years. no fun. and they just want us to live like slaves

I get very mad when I see that people in the canteen line push in, especially the seniors. , I also see that people go on their phones in the bathrooms and they all go in groups in one cubical and they make a lot of noise. These rules need to be followed more because if they are not whats the use of having them?

I don’t feel like i’m being teacher here and i’d rather be in year 6 my whole life rather than get ASSIGNMENTS ON THE ACTUAL HOLIDAYS. IMAGINE GIVING AN ASSIGNMENT ON THE HOLIDAY WORST TEACHER MUGS 4 U. U DONT CARE WHAT WE HAVE GOING ON AT HOME, STRESS, ANXIETY U JUST HAND US WORK WITHOUT CARING omg i really don’t care if i get a detention i’m not following these rules. and obviously i won’t move schools to make it easier on my family but these school rules are so annoying do you know how boring it is too? all the girls do is sit down at lunch talking IN PRIMARY SCHOOL I ACTUALLY PLAYED TIPS, BALL GAMES AND RUNNING but you have no space to do that. so it sucks and the canteen is so overpriced $3.00 for a mf donut? DO YOU ACTUALLY THINK WERE RICH AFTER BUYING A $200 BLAZER? i should’ve gone to a public school your ruining our teenage dreams honestly.

I'm a current year 9 student at Bethany college in one of the Newman selective stream and in my opinion the school isn't exactly bad nor the best school ever! Most teachers have extensive knowledge on the topics (particularly the teachers who have stayed at the school longer cause alot of the older teachers left) and are able to teach well however some are bad at teaching and just expect students to understand everything. Another aspect is the canteen, food is meh its alright but like not exactly healthy and also they don't sell water like what? School buildings and facilities are alright except for the amount of gum but thats a students problem not the schools fault. The amount of workload and assessment schedule is very detrimental to our mental health and stressful especially being a newman student but sometimes we are able to negotiate with our teachers to lessen the task or make it more understandable (most teachers offer some help some don't offer any help). Library is peaceful and organized and is a very nice atmosphere to be in. Lunch is very loud and people talk and play on their phones when teachers are looking. This school is very strict on punctuality and presentation mainly caring about the school reputation, uniform is extremely important we constantly have uniform checks and year assemblies to talk about behaviour and teh punishment system is very stirct however myself hasnt gotten in trouble so idk. Overall the school is meh but its got a good education.

I'm curruently student enrolled in this school as a yr 9 student. The teachers are very nice and I get along with them and even joke around with them. As long as you're on their good side, you're fine(some teachers suck though, they get mad at you for no reason). Most of them also teach good and have efficient learning methods. idk why other students say Newman gets treated better, I personally do not think that(I'm not in newman btw, imma average student). Pretty good school overall, the canteen food is way too overpriced tho($3 for a slice of banana bread, $2.50 for a thumb-sized piece of browmie??). I also made pretty good friends who I think I will stay in touch with even after i graduate and the girls in my year are pretty nice, except for a few. I rate the school a 7.5/10.

Do yourself a favor and don’t send your daughter here, unfortunately there is very little choice for good education in the Hurstville area. It’s true what they say, those can do and those who can’t teach.

there are such stupid rules for this school. TELL ME WHY WE HAVE TO WEAR A BLAZER WHEN ITS LIKE 30 DEGREES EVEN OUTSIDE? This school should not have time out unless the children do the wrong thing it wrong so they should have a time out only like make up,tattoos,swearing,vaping-smoking,being the bossy people and don’t care about how is god is. This school should have a support unit in this school because just in case the children who believe in god and have special needs then they need a class for help for sure

I'm in year 8 at Bethany College and in Newman. All these reviews are right, Newman kids get treated ALOT better than nom-Newman. The uniform policy is so strict but as you get older the teachers start to care less. I wear three necklaces that are not the cross and just tuck them under my uniform. I also wear a bracelet that is common amongst the girls as it is a traditional greek bracelet. I have been told to take it off once and didt and have not been told since. If you want your daughter to come here I don't recommend it. If you think the school is big and your daughter will be active, you have thought wrong. Girls sit around all break talking and when teachers aren't around on their phones. You are forced to wear the school blazer to and from school even if it's 30 degrees. Girls hear mistreat everyone, and there is a lot of bullying from all years. The teachers always come to class late and tell us off for something like not standing in a straight line. If you forget something it's instant detention. This school is horrible so DON'T send your daughter here.

My daughter had a terrible year at this school and I felt that they were more interested about the school reputation than about teaching these kids.
My daughter developed anxiety and depression at this school and her grades dropped dramatically, I had to pull her out and place her else where it’s probably the best decision ever!
Don’t waste your time and money and go public!

we get detentions for the most stupid things, the uniform rules are honestly the most ridiculous thing ever. We have to wear our blazers on 30 degree days, I was told off for wearing a diamond cross pendant because it was too shiny. They say we can't have more than one piercing in our ears, yet the teachers have like 50. If we aren't wearing the correct socks, its a detention. Once I was wearing a hoodie with my sports uniform because it was so cold, and I got told off. Some off our teachers don't teach us properly and we have to rely on our friends teachers to give us the information needed. The girls, especially the year 12's are so rude, they swear at you, push you out of their way and start trouble for no reason

Teachers at this school have no respect for students or parents; they are rude, disrespectful and pathetic. They do not uphold Catholic values at all and treat it more like a business that anything else- trying to get as much money out of you as possible. For example they wanted the student to give them money to buy the year coordinator gifts. With all the money in school fees they still wanted more money out of us despite how much we get disrespected. Pathetic. All positive reviews on this are either teachers or Newman students- the only students they care about. The deliberately give the rest of the kids bad marks so the Newman class gets all the A’s and B’s, because their results get sent to Sydney Catholic Schools and they want them tl promote the school. They not only deliberately mark the rest of us down, they also give the Newman class extra assistance for upcoming assignments when the other kids aren’t even allowed to ask questions regarding the task to their teachers. This school is just a public school with a strict uniform policy and rediculous rules; for example wearing blazers when in 30 degree heat just so it makes the school look good. All they care about is their reputation and nothing else. They take credit for students achievement- both acedemic and non acedemic when they had nothing to do with it. Do not waste your money on this school, it’s not worth it at all and they lie about results. They make it seem as if everyone will be getting top marks by the end of the semester when in reality majority will be getting either a C or a D. They never take blame for anything they do wrong in how they treat people, it always being the students fault. Teachers have been up to 20 mins late to class because they were ‘busy’ gossiping to other teachers when they should have been doing their job and what they get paid for.

This school has zero respect for their students and parents. They are just focused on bettering the 'newman' students. They drag the rest of the students down with their marks. My daughter got 75% in science and was graded a D - absolutely pathetic. Don't waste your money or time with this school - your daughter will develop stress and anxiety. The teachers tell the students that they are poor and are not paid enough, however they seem to afford designer bags, clothes and shoes. They do not embrace the Christian values and want to squeeze as much money out of you. With all the fees that are paid, they also expect students to buy teachers expensive gifts for the end of the year.

Great school and with the Newman Gifted level my daughter is thriving in the challenges and developing into a beautiful happy high achiever. Pitty the previous headmistress left she had a great rapport with the student body and respect was mutual with the whole student and teacher body!

The positive comments are written by either the school proncipal or the teachers pets. Bethany College has a bullying culture and unfortunately this is not just amongst the students, the teachers are all hopeless humans who endows absulotely zero respect to the students, despite Bethany brothels name not comming without reason, it is important to treat every person with respect. The torture which has and will continue to be inflicted amongst this barbarian enviroment is astounding, one can only imagine the horrific stories which have come out of this facility. From one human to another, please, please consider enrolling your daughter in another school, it will save you the money from weekly psychology appointments.

I’m an ex parent and couldn’t of been happier to have taken my child out of this school, the teachers are inconsiderate and care more about the reputation than the education it self. Detentions are given out for eating on the carpet, forgetting your laptop on top of your locker, not wearing your cardigan on a 30 degree day and for wearing a cross pendent which is completely ironic considering it is a catholic school. These girls are young and should look forward to going to school, not living in fear of being embarassed and given a dentention.

This school is a great school, the teachers, counselor and year co-coordinators are excellent in supporting the students when they come. Uniform is a requirement and is normally strict. Education is very good. Students are friendly and caring.

What a review from the previous parent! I think it is the area as a whole! I was ringing up private tutors including a place in the northern suburbs of Syd and they all said we have high demand for st george and sutherland shire they don't know what's going on here.
