Good school, excellent diversity and inclusivity

Very bad school. We came back from overseas and just stayed the the school for 3 years. It was a shocking bad experience! Previous female principal was very smart in playing politics and her super perhaps, but no interest in teaching & learning at all! all she had done was making the school a laughable & messy strange market. It had been no textbooks at all for the first 2years, and the teaching standards were so bad - basically teachers were doing nothing! It is a miracle my kid got into a top selective school , I’ve told it was the first in the school’s history- how sad! Ashfield is well located and the community there is pretty good, but this public school was absolutely so rubbish! we moved house to another suburb (Beectoft) although our kid didn’t attend its public school there we’ve heard so many wonderful stories about its public school. Just wondering why there was s such a huge gap in public schools, and Ashfield is a great suburb too.

Absolute nightmare of a school. I moved there from Haberfield Public School (for OC) and let's just say, worst mistake of my life. The education quality is significantly poorer and don't even get me started on the lack of extracurriculars (string ensemble, dancesport etc). Although I was only here for 2 years, those years were absolute hell. I went from being a high performer across all fields to struggling with pretty much everything. I failed to get into my dream selective school since this place essentially set me up for failure. The students, teachers and principal were all bullies and not very nice people. Don't want to get into specifics but this place left me with irreparable psychological damage. Parents, you can do better when it comes to OC schools.

> Summer Hill Public School (#64 in the state)
> Woollahra Public School (#16 in the state)
> Balmain Public School (#61 in the state)
Meanwhile, Ashfield Public School sits at #228
This school only began offering OC classes in 2016 and it's no wonder why. This is simply not an academic environment. Prior to the arrival of OC, literacy and numeracy scores ranged between 79 and 84 (technically above average but quite low when compared to other primary schools within the inner west). Following the arrival of the first OC class in 2016, these same scores immediately jumped up to the 93 to 97 range. Should also mention that before the arrival of the OC kids, this school couldn't even make it into the TOP 500 OF SCHOOLS IN NEW SOUTH WALES. Unbelievable. Not shocking in the slightest anyway. This place is laughably bad and the principal is just a major control freak and unpleasant all around. Glad I escaped from this madhouse. But I repeat, please do not send your kids here for OC. If you have the opportunity to go to a better school, do that instead. Instead of trying to improve teaching standards, this school just takes advantage of OC kids. -100/10 do not recommend to anyone sane

Went to this school until 2018. I moved to America after that. My experience at this school was overall terrible. In year 5, this one teacher particularly hated me. I have absolutely no idea why. She would single me out and call me out in front of the whole class. On top of that, she never taught. One time we did this NAPLAN preparation test. It was before lunch and we went through not even half of it. She said we will continue tomorrow. Guess what? she never did. All the year 6s from this school now smoke weed. Good job Ashfield. Truly the worst school I’ve been to.

I was a student there a few years back and it was horrendous. My teacher refused to teach me for god knows why, the students in my year group were full of bullies. ( of course you cannot completely stop bullying, but considering the teachers lets the bullying happen and REFUSED to intervene, instead choosing to help bully the student who is the outsider.
My sister also went to the school, and she had autism and was taught in the disability sector of the school. The teachers let the students bully those poor kids with disabilities and the teachers too were not taking care of the students. They chose to ignore it, they were never on duty and were constantly physically and verbally abusing the children.
To those parents who claim in the other reviews as the school begging the "Best school ever.", have a look at your child and think " hmmmm, maybe my child loves the school because they are a bully and they do not get bullied themselves because they are in a big group bullying other students."
When your school life is full of teachers who refuse to teach, students who constantly bully you and teachers who are too lazy to do their job and if you have a sibling with disabilities force you to be at their ( and the rest of the disabled class side) as some sort of protector (when it should be handled by teachers ), school is well and truly 'stuffed up'.
Plus, if you are not of Asian Ancestry like the rest of the school, prepare for the greatest amount of bullying in your entire life! Another plus is if you are not Asian, you do not get to participate in the special Chinese language classes too!
The school may look great with its grand architecture and fake grass all the way through the school, but trust me, it's an absolute mad house/nightmare.

The school bell is excellent it is not like the other schools boring bells.The teachers are all very nice and they teach very well.

Schools bell is not really a bell, it is the crazy frog theme song that causes dance parties at neighboring schools during HSC exams. The school refuses to turn them down and they are part of a childish, one-sided rivalry with neighboring schools. Other than that the school is good, just change your bell please.

This school sucks! Stupid children knock over your lunch. Don't bother going to this dump. Try haberfield public school or summer hill public school because this school is crap!

This school not that bad , but i would prefer Summerhill public instead , since their academic results are far more better than APS (summerhill is ranked in the top 100 schools)

We absolutely love our school! The teachers, principal & other staff are wonderful & give so much of their time & energy to our kids. The library is impressive and has a very committed and passionate teacher librarian.
Within the first week of my daughter attending I was struck by how polite & helpful the students were. The school actively encourages parents' involvement and presence at school events including weekly assembly and daily morning lines. The students from Kindy up host assembly each Friday.
The P&C works really closely with the school. It also provides social opportunities for parents. There are three beautiful gardens , one of which can function as an outdoor classroom. Book a school tour or come for a parent info evening & you'll see all this for yourself!
