There have been some really bad child safety situations at Wesley in the past few years, and they got shut down or the students were ‘punished’ for speaking up. The school cares about itself, not the welfare of the students, and it looks after their favorite teachers and favorite students, no matter what they do. |

At first, this school seemed really nice, I joined in junior school and the education seemed great at first, it was when I moved into middle school in yr 5 that everything went downhill. In yr 5, 25 new students joined the community. This meant more bullies, excluding and even more racism. The punishments are also very unfair for example if you got caught playing games, that's a level 1 onto your permanent report and staying until yr 12. I think bullying is way more important than if you're playing games, so why the school only care about playing games and do nothing against bullying and racism? Just dont send your child here, there are better schools in Melbourne |

If your dad went to school here, or your grandfather, or you cough up big donations, your kids will probably have a good time here. They will probably get school leadership positions, be picked for the best sports teams, get the lead in the school play. You get the picture? But, if you don’t have those connections, anything could happen. There is a class system at Wesley. Go somewhere where you are paying for what you get, and where your kids will have a leadership team that actual cares about them. The education is not worth the price tag. This school is run by the old boys’ network and they operate like a pack. It can be bad luck for you if you not part of that.

I am a student who studied at Wesley College for more than 7 years. When I first got a tour of the Glen Waverley campus, at first it looked pretty nice and had a great environment. I am really grateful to study at a private school. The Glen Waverley campus is pretty new and modern. The facilities are very nice and well maintained. However, that is what people see on the outside. All they said on the tour was a complete lie. I strongly agree that the facilities are good. But the inside, the school's community is absolutely disgraceful. People vaping in the bathroom, trash everywhere, tired teachers, people swearing everywhere. The cafeteria is also poor. I am a very kind and open minded student. All of my past assignments grades and reports were fabulous. I was also a house leader back in year 4. Back then I was keen to go to school everyday. Until when I was suspended for one day for just trying to find justice against a bully who called me racist names and threatened me. The head of year didn't even consider my point of view at all and just sent me straight to suspension. My bully received nothing as a punishment and just got away with all of that. That time I felt stabbed at the back from an old friend. I have never felt that much betrayal in my entire life. From then on, I hated school. Same as the others say, the language and class choices here are very limited. Only a few teachers are optimistic about teaching here. Comparing the price to go here I think that it's a total scam. If you are looking to send your child here, my best advice is to not. Instead send them to a better school with a better community and a better source of education. |

Wesley College is one of the richest schools in Melbourne, and that feeds its abusive, grandiose culture. Like any schools, there are good options, extras and teachers who care. But look how many teachers are leaving or fleeing under the current leadership, which is very focussed on presenting a false virtuous image, when the truth of how they behave and how they will treat employees, and students is far from it. |

I'm at glen waverely and the school is utter bad, students vape and smoke weed. The teachers are overpaid and dont care. as a year 10 student this school could be worse by far compared to a public school, the school completely scams ur money into repaying the fire that happened at gw campus years ago. |

Be very careful about this school. Do your research. Below the surface, the pastoral care is poor and there are serious ongoing child safety concerns. It is not safe to speak up if you have legitimate concerns about wellbeing or you need to give feedback. There are some good teachers but there is a long-standing arrogant, bullying and abusive culture under the surface that goes back generations and it is very much still in play. Teachers who behave badly in 2023 are protected at this school. |

Wesley college as an academic school is great. But the strict rules set with uniform and the dress code is difficult. I get it, they want students to look professional but the uniform not only looks bad but the academic is just straight up uncomfortable. No matter how hot it may get in the winter you still have to wear long sleeve shirts and ties. Other than that the facilities and teachers are some of the best i have ever seen. The programs and opportunities that students have are fantastic. If you go here you can expect great education. |

Ever since I started my life has been better! My friends are amazing, the teachers are fantastic and the overall education is top notch. To any person you would find a friendship group who you trust and like. The only thing that I would to criticise is the uniform is a bit “over the top”. Amazing school, and credit to all the amazing teachers who have popped in effort to help me be me. |

The remote learning is awful and terribly managed, and the rules are just plain ridiculous. Wearing a blazer to and from school is completely unnecessary (but I haven't gotten in trouble for not, so you don't even really have to bother) how the hell does wearing a blazer to and from school do anything, if someone used actual logic they would know the kids wearing blazers where forced to wear them (quite obviously a bad thing). Anyway I always take of my blazer and tie and unbutton my top few buttons. Another uniform complaint (I know, there are a lot of problems with the Wesley uniform) is just how uncomfortable it is, it might just be a private school thing but the uniform is so uncomfortable. There really is no reason to have it, the school barely makes any money from it, the money goes to the company that manufactures the uniform. Oh and the uniform is way to expensive, it's like $40 for a pair of uncomfortable shorts (and I have no problem spending $40 on shorts but I would expect them to be pretty comfortable). As well as the awful uniform, Wesley has some pretty stupid rules about jewellery, why does it matter if you wear dangly earrings, it doesn't hurt anyone, neither does a necklace that isn't just a plain metal chain. The rules on hair pretty dumb too, (unnatural) hair colours don't hurt/distract anyone, neither does having your hair down. I shouldn't have to wait till 18 to express myself, SCHOOLS ARE FOR LEARNING NOT TORTURE. Also the church services are incredibly boring, schools are for learning, not religion. Also in REE (religions class) can we please do more than just Christianity and Judaism, we could very easily do so many more than just 2. -An annoyed year 7 student I would say who I am but I don't want to get in trouble for "damaging the schools reputation" oh well authority doesn't scare me and it's pretty obvious if you actually tried Also this isn't related to Wesley specifically, but "talking back" to teachers should not be punishable, teachers aren't gods, and if they do something you don't like arguing back (respectfully and calmly) does no harm. I'm not a pathetic little child who'll just agree with everything, I'll stand up for myself. |

look, there's always going to be the unlucky ones in any school, but please, as a past student to the school, don't let your child suffer in that place. I migrated to Australia in year 3, and the next year, I joined Wesley College. Though my English was extremely poor at the time, I though everyone here's going to support me through; they didn't. These bystanders watched me as a bully walked into the changeroom with me, then after giving me a heck of a kick to my stomach, left me with the trauma, pain and anxiety even till now. The students did nothing, and my English was not even good enough to explain what happened to the teachers. Worst yet, I was too scared to do so. Years later, that bully came at me again, but this time I fought back; everyone this time cheered! They hated him just as much as I did, but when the teachers came, they said nothing. This was supposed to be a black and white case of self-defence due to the reasonable belief of injury by him from my traumas. Instead, I got a week of suspension for assault and emotional trauma. He was fine, he even made it on to the magazines; but I was not. I've told them that the whole school who knew him thought my actions were justified, but the school betrayed me and turned a blind eye to this spoiled tyrant, they were blinded by the wealth from his family's pockets, ignored justice and made me the villain! I was very unlucky, but unlucky does not explain the corruption of Wesley College and the power of the rich. The school is a true education, but this "true" education is only true if you are rich ENOUGH, and is only "true" if you have the means to deal with the devils under this uniting church. |

If you're rich, Wesley is a great school, but if you don't give them "donations", you'll suffer. Wesley's unofficial policy is to keep the rich in, and it'll be a bonus if the poorer ones stay as well. the rich kids at school has a dramatically lower chance of reciving punishments for more cruel acts of bully, abuse, assault than the ones who don't donate but are just trying to stay alive in this hellhole of a "school". Sounds familiar? |

I graduated from Wesley ~10 years ago. To this day, I still suffer from what was humiliating and degrading treatment of other students including name calling and physical abuse. One child would kick the back of my chair all day every day for years. The same child once filled a bin with water and poured it on to me in front of the whole cohort. It has left me completely broken. |

when i first came and did a tour at the Elsternwick campus, i was so amazed and was so excited and sure that this was the school i wanted to be at and it was the best at teaching me. Most things that were said on the tour were lies. now ive been here for two years and although i am grateful to go to a private school, it is pretty pressuring that when people ask you what your old school was, where you live, what your parents do or what car they drive, they judge you so much and your inclusitivity or popularite is judged by that. some students only care about you if you are rich like them or if your parents can take care of them and take them to expensive places. that is the social life at wesley. Now education. at my old school, it wasn't a private school and i thought their teaching and curriculum was bad, but after attending two years here at Wesley Eslternwick, i have discovered that although it is a private school, the curriculum is worse. The math is so simple and not equivalent to the year level. For example, in Year 7 they taught us how to draw a number line. The teachers can't control the class and although they will tell you on the tour that they have excellent pastoral care. trust me they dont. In no way shape or form am i trying to hate on them, but if you want to go to a private school for good education and social inclusitivity, then wesley isn't the school for you. Now elsternwick wesley teachers will tell you a whole bunch of stuff to make you feel like you are special, it is obvious that the kids wont. THey make a bunch of rules that they tell the parents but dont commit to it in class. They are extremely lenient and students can sometimes take control of the teachers and students. if you want to go there to make rich relations and you are already really rich and live in an expensive area, take your kids there. Because the sometimes the teachers treat the richer ones better. I know the children and students there only care about how much money you have, how much your parents earn and if you want your child to fit in without the pressure and bullying of other students, find another private school.

Wesley is a very good school from a physical point of view because they have excellent facilities, small class sizes and a lot of resources to accomodate the the full range of IB/VCE subjects and extracurriculars. For the student, there is every opportunity to develop themselves to the fullest extent in every area (academics, sports, the arts) However, the ethos and underlying culture of the culture at Wesley is characterised by anger and insecurity, almost as if their lowest uncivilised instincts were never socialised out of them. There is a lot of verbal and relational aggression, but sadly much of this behaviour were from the teachers themselves (as per the other comments and I must add, I've seen a teacher actively discourage a student's aspirations to undermine their confidence) There was a real crabs-in-the-bucket mentality rather than trying to support and lift others up for the collective benefit. I must add a caveat that of course, not all are like this, and being a large school, you'll probably find at least one like-minded person - but all that would be down to the luck of the draw. Wesley may be a high-fee APS school, but that isn't reflected in the general community. Wesley has everything to facilitate the development of a student's abilities, but I wouldn't go there if you want to be part of a community of well-adjusted and kind people. |

I have been fortunate enough to be in private education my whole life. Wesley College is by far one of the worst private schools that I have attended. The students are nasty and your popularity and standing in the school is determined by what car your parents drive and where you live. Little is done to combat the bullying that is rampant in this school as the amount of support that the teachers provide you with is based on building fund donations to the school. Their teaching is equally as bad, in particular, their Mathematics curriculum is atrocious. Avoid this school at all costs. There are plenty of excellent private schools in Melbourne, but Wesley College isn't one of them. |

As a parent of my children at the Wesley College Glen Waverley Campus, I am unsatisfied with the LiR as I hear from my child that the residence is really loud and noisy at night time with people always shouting and screaming. I do not understand how they are calling it The Learning in Residence when these noises are disrupting my child's learning. Nothing has been done to fix this problem as well even though the heads even live on campus. Before you apply, I suggest you come and see for yourself. |

I think that the school (Wesley college) is, generally a good school. the curriculum is good and there are lots of quality teachers. however, some go over the top and are being Really disrespectful especially to the students. I believe this is not intentional but is really annoying. Their consequences were not acceptable, there were behaviors that went too far. if you feel this is a good school go then, at your own risk. |

although it appears to be good and equal to boys and girls, after going there for 5 years it really isnt. appart from the ridiculous fee and obvious money grab with the overpriced uniform, they discriminate against the length of boys hair and haircuts they consider to be " too extreme". the uniform rules are way over the top and you have to change uniform in the bathrooms that are filled qith graffiti, broken doors and crap. prooperty often gets stolen and there are drugs. the students are rich snobs that show off their parents money and have disregard to anyone who isnt private schooled. if you like having to wake up early for compulsary 2 hour sport on saturdays, this is the school for you. you must go to a sporting event that takes up half your saturday every week even if you are injured.while there are some good teachers most are just bullies who expect university level work and give literally up to 2 and a half hours each night for one subject. they forget that students have other homework to do and assume their subject is the most important. they teach you not to help homeless people and that life is only worth going to school, uni and then getting a desk job. it is very old and british, would not reccomend unless your the queen |

St Kilda Rd campus. Not a constructive environment. Difficult to encourage kids to respect one another when some of the teaching staff are unable to demonstrate that behaviour themselves. Yelling at the students, gossiping about students in full view of student and in corridors, frequent inability to control the class. These behaviours are common, particularly with one of the language teachers. Parents are continually shocked to hear that the threat of failure is lorded over kids in yr 10. We're all stunned that this threat is being used to apparently motivate kids? Education feeling more like survival than unlocking the true potential of each student. |

Many of the teaching staff appear tired, angry and draw on humiliation and bullying tactics to maintain any class control. Some great educators but good ones seems to move on regularly leaving the disengaged to educate. The IB determines much of the available subjects despite majority of students opting for VCE. IB also forces non language oriented students to compulsory completion of a year 10 language which is a waste of an opportunity for them to persue a subject of genuine interest. |

Told by the careers teacher at St Kilda Rd campus that she was too busy to get to know those students she counselled. Correspondence from the school stresses how busy Careers ed person is and in her words this is a process. Felt strongly that for Wesley careers ed is more a compliance activity and that students other than those heading for the most obvious Uni studies were irrelevant. Work exp had to be organised before any careers ed and testing had been done, which really rendered the concept of work exp futile as, again, this appears to be a compliance based activity not meaningly informed by any career conversation. The threat of not passing Yr 10 was inappropriately lorded over student by careers counsellor. Felt more like an attempt at putting student back in their box. Not only uninspiring but actually a genuinely destructive engagement. |

Wesley Elsternwick - Middle school Pastoral care below average. Poor support for students individual needs. Transfer of students strengths/weaknesses between teachers from year to year non existing. A number of teachers appear disengaged/demotivated. Sporting options plentiful but commitment to providing regular Saturday sport opportunities are poor. Many options but little to no encouragement by the leadership team/teaching staff to uptake. Facilities and resources extremely poor (in comparison to Wesley St Kilda Road or Glen Waverley). Early transfer to another Wesley campus is not considered. Overall disappointing, in comparison to feedback from parents at St Kilda Road and Glen Waverley campus. |

?Outstanding pastoral care, small class sizes results in enhanced learning, the benefit of a small campus within a larger community, are some of the marketing quotes you will hear from the Head of Wesley Elsternwick on a tour of the campus, however the reality is quite different. Inappropriate humiliating comments by the Senior pastoral leader and offensive language by teaching staff to students appears to be acceptable. Lack of knowledge / training in dealing with adolescence students is evident. Class sizes in some years are small (due to a number of students departing to alternative local private schools or as a result of poor entrance intake). Middle school teachers are stretched across 3 or more subjects, all of which are not their primary interest or passion (an extremely high turnover of teachers, unfortunately both stand out teachers Michael Knight and Colin Shnier are departing). Students are provided with numerous subject and sporting options but there is little focus on motivating or inspiring students to uptake the options or encouragement to reach their full potential. Elsternwick campus is the ?poor sister?, resources and facilities are antiquated, the grounds are extremely small and poorly maintained and are not suitable for middle school students. Language other than English choices are limited (2 in Elsternwick, 4 in Glen Waverley), but school fees are the same for each campus! Each student is treated as a number rather than an individual, a transfer to another Wesley campus is refused (even if it would benefit the student). I would strongly recommend you avoid Wesley Elsternwick campus. |

Re Wesley Elsternwick, I agree with comments made below. Facilities are tired and limited compared to the other two locations. Some exceptional teachers such as M Knight, and C Schnier, however many whose commitment appears ordinary. Ability to hold the attention of students and manage disruptive students has been an ongoing challenge making it difficult for harder working kids to get the attention they deserve. Music dept strong and encouraging but maybe at the cost of areas such as art and craft. Have seen the issues with bullying from the sidelines and have been surprised at the lack of consequences for those inflicting continued torment on others. Possibly the greatest let down given the advertised values of the school. |

If considering Wesley I would encourage you to avoid Elsternwick campus. Campus appears ill equiped relative to other 2 campuses inspite of parents paying same fees. For example textiles room had 1 working sewing machine (others in state of disrepair), sporting facilities poor. In my view very downgraded facilities. Seem to have a high turnover of teaching staff. Pastoral care has been disappointing, feel driven by rhetoric rather than genuine student care and engagment. In my view they have tried to jam in too many year levels into one very small campus which forces the school to spread resources and energy too thinly. Elsternwick campus is prep to end of year 9. Parents are trying to migrate their kids to st kilda road campus and these requests have been flatly refused. An attempt at holding a parent forum with leadership at the campus was also refused. I cant help but feel leadership may be out of their depth at this campus. In the interest of balance, the smaller community was great in the very junior years, however more senior years find the smaller number of students limiting. |
