I expect it's probably okay for students moving from Germany or who are native speakers (although I still know of a couple of parents who fell into this category and were very unhappy), but I would definitely not recommend it for any non-native German speaking family who was serious about raising their child bilingually. This is not a true international school like the American/British international schools you find overseas (where ALL children are treated equally and emerge with similar levels of English). It is a school where local students are segregated into their own stream, despite paying the same fees - essentially financially supporting the bilingual stream (which employs teachers from Germany and is more expensive to run) - receiving not much more than nice classrooms and some token mediocre German lessons in return. Save your money - there are public schools in Sydney which provide more of a language immersion environment than this one, or look at some of the genuine international schools in the city. | | By Parent - 11 Dec 2018, 评价: 较差 | Our family attended the Preschool (where we had an excellent experience) and Primary School (which was deeply disappointing). We decided not to continue to High School due to a number of concerns we had around the quality of the teaching and the social/cultural environment at the school. Pros: - Beautiful school buildings and setting amidst the bush in Terrey Hills - An exceptional preschool incorporating true immersion in both languages and a holistic approach to education and wellbeing (i.e., play-based learning, life skills) aligning with preschools in Germany - Friendly administrative staff Cons: - The school is essentially run by an extremely exclusive and tight-knit "in group" of teachers and parents with social and personal connections which extend beyond the school environment. This can make it really difficult to raise concerns or feel that all children are being treated fairly and equally - especially if the class bully is the child of another teacher at the school or the parent who is best friends with the class teacher. It can also result in a very isolating and lonely experience for both you and your child/ren if you are not included. We never felt part of the school community and know many other parents who felt the same way. - We encountered some quite poor quality teachers and members of the leadership team in the Primary School and Middle School. Many of the approaches of dealing with discipline, education and children in general seemed inappropriate, outdated and unprofessional. - The Primary School recently split into a "German" stream and "English" stream, with now only native speakers permitted in the German stream (i.e. excluding even those children who started in the preschool at age 3). This type of exclusivity and social/cultural divide is not what I expected from an international school and was deeply disappointing for us, as parents, who chose the school due to its (previous) immersion environment. - Very average German language abilities for students not in the German stream. - Very unwelcoming of parental involvement in classes. - Very poor communication from teachers to parents in terms of how children are progressing or what they are learning. - A really high turn-over rate of students which would be unheard of at any other school in Sydney. While many students do leave to return to Germany, a large number are also moving to other local schools. In the first four years of the Primary School we saw around half of our chid's entire original class leave. | | By Parent - 30 Jan 2018, 评价: 较差 | Pros. Good for languages - so it should be. Nice location, generally a happy atmosphere. Cons. Some very average to terrible teachers. Would have expected much more on that front. Bad sport choices, also no inter school sports carnivals etc. No canteen Terrible website, and communication with the teachers is also very poor. Often kept in the dark with regards to what is expected of your child, assignment dates, tests etc. Expensive for the return....
